COMPANY DETAILS: Australian Molasses Trading Pty Ltd (AMT) was formed in 1993 to export all bulk molasses that is excess to the requirements of the Australian domestic market. AMT is a fully incorporated private company whose shareholders are Australian sugar millowners. The company replaced the organisation known as the Australian Molasses Pool which operated between 1963 and 1993. All mills that are likely to have molasses available for export are members of AMT. Under an agreement, Sucrogen Limited provides management services, co-ordinates the export of molasses on behalf of AMT, and is responsible to a Board of Directors. The company arranges forward and spot sales of molasses on an FOB basis from molasses terminals located at the ports of Cairns, Mourilyan, Townsville, Mackay and Bundaberg. These terminal facilities operate as separate regional companies owned by the local district raw sugar mills. Molasses transport to the terminals is arranged by individual mills by either road tanker or rail wagon to the nearest port terminal storage tanks. In liaison with the buyer, AMT ensures that shipping schedules are compatible with the rate of export molasses availability from terminals in the July to November period. Terminal Storage Capacities:
Annual
export sales are made to markets which include the USA, New Zealand, China,
Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and the EU.
